Project Background

The Ridgefield Junction industrial/commercial area has been planned, through the Ridgefield Junction Sub Area plan, to serve the long-term viability of this developing local and regional economy. This will provide critical infrastructure that is needed to unlock the significant potential of the area and provide adequate access.

This project will provide access to the new Advanced Manufacturing Center at Clark College’s Boschma Farms and act as an arterial connection from I-5 to existing freight dependent businesses in Union Ridge Business Park. Once complete it will increase traffic mobility and create a safer road system in the area of Ridgefield Junction. The new sidewalks and crosswalks will create a pedestrian facility that will enable foot traffic to access all that the area has to offer.

Next Steps

This project is currently under construction and the final pieces are coming together. The contractor will be installing a traffic signal at 5th and Union Ridge Parkway, flashing pedestrian beacons at the roundabout, and final striping.

There may be traffic impacts for this project. Traffic updates can be found anytime on our Road Construction and Traffic Impacts webpage. See "Related Links" on the right hand side, or below on a mobile device, for more information relevant to this project.

When will pedestrian and bicycle access be available from the Historic Downtown Ridgefield to I-5.

    Thank you for your question.

There are multiple projects with different timelines that work toward our goal of an interconnected trail and sidewalk system. Currently, there are three main areas that present an obstacle when traveling by foot or bicycle between Downtown and the interstate: between Downtown and 32nd, between 35th and 39th, and between 47th and 56th.

    1. Downtown to 32nd
      1. The Mayor's Meadow to Reiman Road Multi-Use Trail will connect the existing Gee Creek at the southeast corner of Abrams Park to the intersection of Pioneer Street and N Reiman Road. This will fill a portion of this gap, one would just need to route through Abrams Park. This project is currently pending funding.
      2. The city is working too identify trail alignments to connect from Reiman Road to N 32nd Ave, where existing trail links up with Pioneer Street at the 35th roundabout.
    2. 35th to 39th - Currently, there are no projects being planned in the next 2-3 years to widen the segment of Pioneer between 35th and 39th. Next year, we will be working on an update to our Transportation Capital Facilities Plan which will produce a 6-year priority list of improvements as well as an updated 20-year plan. The community will have opportunities to engage in the update process in 2024, and this segment could be identified as a location prioritized for bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
    3. 47th to 56th - The I5 to Royle Road Transportation Improvements will include multi-modal paths on both sides of Pioneer Street, connecting to existing improvements on either side. This will be completed at the end of 2024.
