The Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Roundabout project has widened Pioneer Street to four lanes with multi-use paths and planter strips, constructed a new roundabout at Discovery Drive, and built N Discovery Drive to a new portion of Pioneer Canyon Drive.

The project also included the construction of 5 major culverts, upgraded water, sewer and storm utilities, and a joint utility trench.

Area Coordination

The City's Pioneer Widening and Discovery Drive Roundabout project is just one piece of a group of transportation infrastructure improvements planned for the area. Several projects will be completed by private developers, paying for the increased infrastructure needs their projects will create.

  • Union Ridge Town Center, anchored by Costco, construction N 56th Place, N 53rd Place and the eastern leg of Pioneer Canyon Drive.
  • Ridgefield Gateway, which includes McDonalds's, added a turn lane and other improvements to the north side (westbound direction) of Pioneer Street between I-5 and 56th Place. The developer also completed modifications to the Pioneer Street and Interstate 5 interchange to create additional lane capacity.

The map below shows all of the planned and anticipated infrastructure projects, color coded by whether the project will be done by the City, or by a Developer. This is a conceptual map and does not show exact road alignments.
