YMCA is coming to Ridgefield!

The YMCA of Columbia-Willamette will be building a YMCA facility in Ridgefield thanks to a partnership with the City of Ridgefield and a private developer. In the meantime, the YMCA is offering day camps and other activities in Ridgefield to help meet our community’s growing need for recreational activities.

Project Background

In 2016, the City of Ridgefield and YMCA jointly funded a needs analysis and market study for a YMCA facility in Ridgefield. The study clearly identified a highly viable, necessary community asset which would meet membership targets and program enrollments from day one.

In 2021, the City of Ridgefield purchased 4.9 acres located just north of Pioneer Street at 51st Avenue near the Discovery Ridge shopping center. City of Ridgefield residents will receive a discounted Y membership as a benefit of the city providing land for the facility.

During the June 24, 2021 meeting, Ridgefield City Council unanimously approved an award for site design and planning for an estimated $273,000, allowing $250,000 in state funds to pay for the majority of the cost, and the city paying the remainder.

At the January 27, 2022 Council Meeting, the initial design was presented to City Council. The 40,000 SQ FT facility will include:

  • Health and Well-being Areas
  • Aquatics Center (two pools)
  • Gymnasium
  • Locker rooms – including family locker rooms
  • Multipurpose Spaces for community activities and programs
  • Ample parking and space to add on

Next Steps

The City of Ridgefield will continue to support YMCA efforts to construct a Ridgefield facility and bring highly desired services to Ridgefield families. Day camps and other activities hosted by the Y in Ridgefield can be found on our Community Events Calendar. Construction updates will be shared on this page when they are available.

To better support the increase of traffic in Ridgefield, a new roundabout will be constructed on Pioneer to provide access to the YMCA and into the east end of Discovery Ridge. The City is also currently working on the design for widening Pioneer St (SR-501) to 4 lanes between Rosauers and 56th Street.
