Existing multi-modal trail on S Hillhurst Road.

This trail will connect neighborhoods along Hillhurst to Ridgefield High School, filling a gap in pedestrian facilities on Hillhurst Road.

The Hillhurst Multi-Modal Trail is included in the City's Multimodal Transportation Plan (PDF) and is recommended in the 2020 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan (PDF).

Ridgefield envisions an interconnected trail system that encourages healthy, active living, promotes pedestrian transportation options and independent mobility, increases community safety, reduces environmental impact, and supports greater social interaction and community identity. Pedestrian and trail improvements are a critical step to meeting this goal. However, areas of the city that developed prior to current pedestrian standards have created gaps in the city's network.

Background

The design was completed for this highly desired connection in 2022. The design includes a multi-modal trail, for pedestrians and bicycles, along the north side of Hillhurst Road stretching from in front of Ridgefield High School to just past 22nd Circle with a new connecting crosswalk to Sevier Road.
