What is the difference between the Port of Ridgefield and the City of Ridgefield?

The Port of Ridgefield and the City of Ridgefield are two separate entities with their own leadership, governing bodies, and offices.

The Port of Ridgefield and the City of Ridgefield are working together to develop a Master Plan for the community park planned at the Ridgefield Waterfront. The Ridgefield Waterfront is Port of Ridgefield property.

The Port of Ridgefield is a public port district. Ports are public entities focused on promoting economic prosperity for the region. The Port of Ridgefield was established by voters in 1940. Its boundaries are larger than the City of Ridgefield, stretching north and west to La Center and south to about 159th Street. You can learn more about the Port of Ridgefield on their website.

The City of Ridgefield was incorporated in 1909. As a local government, the City is responsible for providing local services to residents within its jurisdiction. The City's jurisdiction includes the Ridgefield City Limits, which are smaller than the Ridgefield postal area and the Port district. You can learn more about the City of Ridgefield on our website.

What features will be included at the Waterfront Park?

That is what we are trying to figure out!

A Master Plan is a framework for future detailed design of recommended park improvements. The plan will be based on ideas about the park that emerge during the course of public involvement process and a detailed assessment of existing conditions both at the park and within the Ridgefield park system.

What happens after a master plan is developed?

After a the Master Plan has been developed, we will use the Waterfront Park Master Plan to seek funding from the state and federal grant opportunities to build the park in phases.

When will construction begin at the Ridgefield Waterfront?

Please refer to the Port of Ridgefield for information about re-development of the Ridgefield Waterfront.
