Gee Creek Loop

Improvements are coming to the neighborhood of Gee Creek Loop, including an enhanced crossing on Pioneer Street.

The improvements, funded by a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) will include storm drainage improvements, new asphalt, and sidewalk improvements. Additionally, a new pedestrian crossing will be added with a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) crossing Pioneer Street and connecting the neighborhood to the southeast end of Abrams Park.

This project is funded in part with funds provided by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD).

About Community Development Block Grants
Congress created the CDBG Program with the enactment of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended. The Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates these funds in a single or "block" grant to eligible cities and counties with the objective of improving communities. The funds are then distributed to municipalities, organizations, and groups through a competitive application process.

Next Steps

ADA Sidewalk Construction Progress Gee Creek Loop Improvements are under construction.

The contractor has completed adding along Pioneer in the dip and installing ADA sidewalks and ramps. Crews have encountered unstable soils under portions of the roadway that will require additional work.

Crews continue to make every effort to minimize disruptions.
