To accommodate current needs and prepare for expected development along Carty Road, the City is planning a multimodal trail network. Phase 1 consists of an enhanced crosswalk on the corner of Hillhurst and Carty Road.
The opening of the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex (RORC), Sunset Ridge Intermediate School and View Ridge Middle School in 2019 on the west side of Hillhurst in the vicinity of Carty Road has led to increasing numbers of students and others walking along Carty Road and crossing Hillhurst Road. Staff have received an increasing number of concerns for the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in the area.
Phase 1 consists of an enhanced crosswalk on the corner of Hillhurst Road and Carty Road to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians on a major roadway. The City was awarded a $240,000 federal grant through the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council in 2025 for this project.
Design of Phase 1 will begin in 2026. Future phases, including construction of Phase 1, will be contingent on new development.
