My street is scheduled for resurfacing, what do I need to do before hand?

If you receive notification that your street will have resurfacing work done, please follow all instructions on the notice. If you have lost or misplaced the notice, make sure:

    • Move all vehicles and personal property off of the road during the work day(s).
    • Check that your street trees are properly trimmed to a height of 12' from the asphalt, or to a height appropriate to the individual tree that maximizes street clearance.
    • Follow all signage, cones, or other directions to avoid driving on freshly treated street.

Why did the City come and put ugly squiggly lines all over our neighborhood roads?

Crack seal lines on a neighborhood road.

The repair shown above is known as a "Crack Seal." This is the msot cost effective preservation methos and involves applying an asphalt rubber into a crack to prevent water intrusion*.

Crack seal is the first step in a quality future slurry seal treatment. The new lines follow the cracks in the roadway, so they aren't always neat or attractive, but they are essential to protecting the longterm health of the pavement.

If your neighborhood recently had crack seal application, it is a sign that it is due for pavement preservation work in the near future (typically this summer or next), that will cover the lines with a clean new road surface.

Water intrusion into streets and temperature variations that cause freezing and thawing (expansion and contraction) below the surface will deteriorate the subsurface of a street and will eventually lead to surface cracking and potholes.

Will the street be closed during paving?

Yes. It is important that NO CARS drive on the street while the paving work is completed. Please plan accordingly and park your vehicle on a neighboring street if needed to avoid driving on freshly treated streets.

The contractor will remove barriers to the street when it is ready to be driven on.

How long will the street be closed?

Residents should plan for roads to be closed 7 AM - 5 PM.

The exact length of time will depend on the conditions for that day. The contractor will remove barriers as soon as it is safe to drive on the street. Please be patient and respect these barriers to protect this investment in our streets.

Why is my street not being resurfaced? When will you resurface my street?

Streets in Ridgefield are monitored and rated on the Pavement Conditions Index (PCI). Ridgefield aims to maintain an average rating of about 80 (Very Good). Each year streets are selected based on how we can utilize available funding to make the biggest impact.

My street is being resurfaced on garbage pick up day! What do I do?

Your garbage pickup will remain the same.

The city's contractor has been in coordination with Waste Connections regarding garbage/recycling pickups. Waste Connections will complete pickups through the areas in conflict prior to work beginning. The contractor will move empty cans from the street onto the curb prior to performing work.

What time will the street be closed?

Homeowners should expect roads to be closed 7 AM - 5 PM.
